Disclaimer
A starting point, not legal advice. This wording was drafted for a children's play-therapy practice; check it reflects your own services before relying on it.
This website is information, not therapy. Reading these pages, however useful, isn't a substitute for professional support for your child. Every child and every family situation described here plays out differently in a real life.
Play therapy is not an emergency service. Messages sent through this site are read within two working days, not within the hour. If you are seriously worried about a child's safety right now, please use the urgent contacts instead: 999 if a child is in immediate danger, the NSPCC on 0808 800 5000 for any adult worried about a child, Childline on 0800 1111 for the child themselves, or your GP and NHS 111 (option 2) for urgent concerns about a child's mental health.
Play therapy complements medical care; it doesn't replace it. I don't diagnose, and play therapy is not a substitute for your GP, a paediatrician or CAMHS where your child needs them. With your consent I'm glad to work alongside all of them, and I'll always tell you honestly if I think your child needs a different kind of help.
No outcome is promised. Play therapy has a strong evidence base for children of this age, and I'll always be honest about what the work can and can't offer your child. But no ethical practitioner guarantees a result, and you should be cautious of any who does. Parent words on this site are shared with permission, anonymised, and describe individual experiences rather than promises.
A note on the colourfulness. This site is bright because the playroom is bright, and the playroom is bright because that's where children feel safe enough to do hard work. Behind the colour sits a regulated, supervised, fully insured professional practice, PTUK registered and enhanced DBS checked, and the seriousness with which your child is held here is never in question.
